WHY BECOME AN AUXILIARY OFFICER
Membership in the Auxiliary Police affords citizens the opportunity to study some basic aspects of police work, learn police objectives and goals, and therefore assist the Oshkosh Police Department in efforts to police the City of Oshkosh.
The concept of volunteer firemen is readily known to most people; however, very few people are probably aware that there are also approximately 250,000 volunteer law enforcement officers augmenting municipal, county and state police forces across the United States today. These volunteers represent a substantial and invaluable addition to the nation's over 700,000 full-time Police Officers. Just like volunteer firefighters, Auxiliary Police Officers are trained men and women who devote their spare time to serving their communities - without pay.
